Documentary Family Awards aim to elevate documentary family photography genre by showing that creative and meaningful photos can be made through capturing candid, real-life moments.
This is my 3rd time submitting work to the DFA and my 3rd time being selected as a finalist. I am especially humbled and grateful that the esteemed judges Lawrence Jackson (former official photographer for President Obama), Jide Alakija and Leslie Kershaw considered my photo series for the award in the final round of judging!
Preliminary round guest judges evaluated 7000 photos and selected forty or less of their favourite photographs per category to move forward to the live-judging round as finalists. My deepest gratitude also goes to the talented photographers Jacque Jackson (United States), Lafayette Hicks (United States) and Sarah Jane Rabideau (Canada) for nominating my photo in the pandemic category.
This award cycle was jam-packed with extremely talented, creative and hard-working photographers and I am so very proud to be among them.
